IEEE NPSS VIT chapter advances nuclear and plasma sciences to transform the energy
scenario. By providing the best learning opportunities, the chapter helps the members develop
their skills and competencies so that they may advance in the field of nuclear sciences,
something of utmost in today’s world, with its ever growing energy demands. So the board
members of the chapter felt a need to conduct an ‘Informative session on Nuclear Energy’ to
enlighten all NPSS members on basics of nuclear energy. The event was conducted between
6:00 PM and 7:30 PM on 14th September,2015.
All the members of the chapter and a few freshers of the VIT university attended the event in Technology Tower. The speakers were Niveditha, board member of NPSS VIT chapter and three other members of NPSS who were well-prepared to deliver valuable information.
Speakers discussed on various important topics. Introduced to Nuclear Energy and it's usage and potential in future. Basic nuclear reactions such as nuclear fission and fusion were explained in detail with the help of short videos. Evolution and working of nuclear reactors and various processes in different parts of the reactor were discussed. Presented short videos on ‘Why we should continue using Nuclear Energy’ and ‘Adverse effects of Nuclear bombs’. Indian context: Nuclear Energy Programme, Barriers to Nuclear Energy, Nuclear weapons, Nuclear research centers were presented in detail with statistics.
The event concluded with the discussion on ‘Using Nuclear Energy in a Right Way’. Time spent for clarification of doubts before closing the session. Audience appreciated the speakers and expressed their excitement for the upcoming events of the chapter in the feedback.
